How it works

Three hidden words run down the grid. Your job is to build all three from a pile of letters, and you get three checks to do it.

Two short words run across the grid as clues:

A link is a relationship between two words: a synonym, an opposite, or a closely associated word.

Example

Key HOT → HEATED (a synonym) and TORRID (extremely hot)

Lock TIE → TOGETHER (to tie is to bind together)

Fill every cell, then press Check. Letters in the right place stay put, and the rest go back to the pile.

Play with friends

Share your result after each game, or create a group and invite friends with a link or code. Each day, the group’s leaderboard ranks everyone by fewest checks and then fastest time, and nobody sees the day’s results until they’ve played it themselves. You can also compare everyone’s results over the last 30 days and all time.

Questions

Is Crosslatch free?

Yes. Crosslatch is free to play in your browser, with nothing to download.

When does the new puzzle come out?

At midnight in your own timezone. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same date, wherever they are.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play as a guest. A free account keeps your statistics and streak across devices, and lets you join groups.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Crosslatch runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to your home screen like an app.

Is the spelling UK or US English?

UK English by default. Signed-in players can switch to US English under Account › Language.

How is Crosslatch different from Wordle?

Like Wordle, there is one puzzle a day and you can share your result. But instead of guessing a single word, you build three words at once, using a key word and the links between them. It plays more like a mini crossword.

Who makes Crosslatch?

Crosslatch was cobbled together in New Zealand as a hobby project. Think number 8 wire, a shed full of words and an AI assistant that was very patient with the questions. There are bound to be a few quirks, so if you spot something, let me know through Provide Feedback in the menu (once you’re signed in) or at [email protected].
